SUPPORT AND SPONSORSHIP

We are a private team, that is to say we have to plan, organize and realise everything on our own. Therefore, sometimes financing the tours is a little difficult. All the more we say thank you to those who understand people like us and helped us realizing our dreams. We travel in all climatic regions and as a family we are a rather exceptional kind of team. Therefore, our tours are an ideal equipment test. After many experiences we want to say thanks to our sponsors. We recommend their equipment and products that have proven extremely well in extreme situations, be it the oxygen-lacking air in the High Andes or the humid climate in the jungle, or be it the cold winter in Alaska or the white water in Labrador.

ALLY-Folding Canoes

The Norwegian folding boats are the key to our success when planning and realizing paddling tours in remote wilderness areas with difficult logistical conditions. An “Ally” is an excellent compromise with regard to packaging, weight, load and handling – in quiet water as well as in white water. As a matter of fact these advantages are also benefitial for those friends of canoing whose private storing and transport capabilities are restricted.

ALPINA - Professional Eyewear

Have you ever paddled in white water looking stright into the sunshine, being lucky enough to reach your destination point? Or have you ever rumbled through bumps on a ski run that are all of a sudden in front of you though you did not see them? There are situations in which even sharp eyes need support! This is when you need Alpina sports and skiing goggles. Apart from protection against UV-rays these goggles are extremely robust and break-resistant, they have a fogstop layer (against steaming up) and they are available with a pole filter ("Quadroflex" version) that intensifies contrasts and avoid "blind flights" at low visibility.

CATHAY- Pemmikan

The destination of our journey does not matter – the “concentrated food” of Metzmacher is always part of our equipment and it serves as the basic food during the time in nature. Our favourite meal is Pemmikan with fresh made Bannock, but we also cock it with rice, pasta and potatoes, or we use it as spread or to make a soup. Whenever we had reason to thank Indians and Inuit for their hospitality we invited them to join our meal, and their comments proved our success. This product has an excellent weight to nutritional value ratio, and the feeling of repletion is better compared with special freeze-dried expedition meals.

hf - Water Sports Safety

hf – This shortcut is not only for white-water freaks a synomym of innovation and security in canoeing. For many years we use the Multi-Safe life-jackets for white-water canoeing. On long trips the Nahanni waistcoat with its many pockets and comfortable style has proved very useful. At very low temperatures at the Noatak River we even wore them during canoing brakes and trekking on the land – simply because it was comfortable and warmed us. It goes without saying that our standard equipment includes two rescue bags with 18-m-throwlines.

ORTLIEB - waterproof equipment

An important aspect of canoe-based expeditions is the stowing of the luggage. Since all equipment should be kept dry (nobody wants to pull a wet sleeping-bag out of his bagpack in the evening) a bagpack seems to be not the first choice. On the other hand, the equipment has to be transported on overland routes, with a backpack being a convenient transportation means. The solution of this dilemma is the so-called X-Tremer. Four sleeping bags plus Therm-a-rests can be stowed in these extremely robust and waterproof packing bags, and thanks to shoulder-straps they can be carried on trackless portages.

Schlegel-Paddles

During a canoe trip a paddle is pulled through the water some thousand times a day. Therefore, it makes a great difference if you use an efficient tool instead of an unwieldy, heavy one. Schlegel’s paddles are our first choice - they accompanied us to Alaska and to Labrador.

Ullfrotté Original

Ullfrotté thermal underwear is a premium product of Sweden. Developed in a country where people are inured to long and cold winters and made of Merino wool and synthetic fibre the advantages of these clothes can be experienced in skiing as well as mountain climbing and canoeing. Wool transports moisture away from the body and even wet wool warms. The synthetic fibre improves stability of the fabric. And a further feature should not be underestimated: Wool absorbs smell much better than pure synthetic products. Everybody who has worn the underwear for a longer period of time knows what I’m talking about…

Viba-Fruit Bars

The delicious Sportsline fruit bars are our “companions” from the very beginning of a trip. A strong self-imposed discipline prevents us from eating fruit bars, that are calculated to last for several weeks, within a very short period of time. More than once the pleasant anticipation of the next break helped us to manage hard moments. And we shared our joy with other people: At the Inka Trail with native Indians who carried the equipment of other groups, in Kangiqsualujjuaq in Labrador with the Inuit children, and many more other people. Celebrating Christmas Eve in our tent in Patagonia we used the coloured wrapping as a replacement of the missing Christmas-tree decoration of Lauscha.

YETI-Down Parkas / Sleeping Bags

Yeti is like a cult. A Samok down jacket is like a second skin. It seems to be part of the body, similarly like the hide that protected our ancestors against coldness. Light-weight, warming and with an excellent cut you do not feel these clothes until you take them off – missing them at once. Within my McKinley 1700 down sleeping bag I spent nights at outside temperatures of -40° C and less, wearing Ullfrotte 200 underwear, an Ullfrotte face mask and Yeti down foots only, and I felt warm and comfortable.
