For many years it has been one of our common passions to experience nature as freely and independently as possible - with backpacks, tent and canoe. At the beginning there were only two of us – me and my wife Petra. After the birth of our two children, Sarah and Lennart, we seemed to have two alternatives: A rather long break of our wilderness trips or travelling as a couple, leaving our children at home. But we decided to try a third way: To travel together with our children! Due to the great responsibility when travelling with little children we planned our routes, transports, equipment and food supplies with the utmost care. To avoid useless discussions with notorious sceptics and with those of our friends and acquaintances who continuously weigh up all pros and cons, we rarely talked about our plans and spent most of our energy on important preparations. During a couple of years we learned quite a lot, above all that the most wonderful experiences in the wilderness are possible with children (even small children) – on the basis of a realistic view of what is possible or not! Again and again we were surprised by Sarah’s and Lennart’s capabilities. We learned that our objectives must be based on the actual situation and possiblities. If you want to set up records, you cannot do that on other people’s expense. Today, after sharing many happy hours as well as icy nights in a tent in altitudes of more than 5000 meters, days of continuously paddling against stormy headwind, hikes through jungles that make one sweat, strenuous portages, myriads of mosquitoes and many experiences more, we know that we made the right decision. It seems that our family wilderness trips will be the happiest and most exciting period in our life. (If you want to know more about us, click on the names and then on the pictures.)
